Job Details

Make a difference from day one!

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. We deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

What will you be doing?

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities. This is a part time role, working 6 sessions a week, 24 hours - details of which can be discussed at interview stage with the team.

Job Requirements

You will be a qualified GP (with GMC and performers list registration) and have a real passion for building on your medical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

What do our GP's say?

‘As a full-time salaried GP and Clinical Lead, working for Care UK has provided me with stability, opportunity and resources to be able to do my job well. My work load is manageable and I am well supported by an excellent team who are keen and well-motivated. I am able to get involved in service development and commissioning as well as being supported with study leave for appraisal and professional development’. - Dr Andrew Bowen

‘Secure Environment Medicine is simply the best GP job there is. You get to work as part of a dedicated team, performing an essential public service, with varied and challenging problems to help solve. You get to manage patients with real problems. It is very, very rewarding’. - Dr Michael Croft

What can we offer you?

As a valued employee of Care UK, we will ensure that we offer you a competitive salary including contributory pension scheme, reimbursed indemnity (salaried GP only), on-going training and development, as well as designated study leave days and good quality working conditions (pro-rata for part-time).

Our benefits do not stop there…

If you have no experience in prison, we will provide you with opportunities to develop in this area as well as a comprehensive and well-supported induction process. At HMP Wormwood Scrubs, we will be happy to support you to undertake Part 1 RCGP if not already.

We also offer 25 days annual leave along with 8 public holidays per year, 2x salary life assurance and discounts through the NHS blue light card scheme and Log Buy.

About Us

Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country.
Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/well being factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

Company

Be the doctor you want to be at Practice Plus Group

Welcome to Practice Plus Group, the country’s largest independent provider of NHS services.

We deliver a wide range of quality, flexible services to millions of patients across the UK. But what do we give the doctors who work for us?

In a word, freedom.

Our primary care services range from GP services and walk-in centres to urgent care and SARCs, out of hours services and offender health.

That means, as a doctor joining our team, you have the freedom to choose where you work. Do you want to specialise in one area? Go for it. Would you prefer a portfolio career, developing your skills and experience in a selection of services? That’s also fine by us. Whichever option you choose, one thing’s for sure: because we serve a rich mix of patient populations you can expect a wealth of professional challenges that will really test – and develop – your skills.

What’s more, you’re free to choose the hours you want to work. So you can join us on a full time basis, or fit your role at Practice Plus Group around existing work or lifestyle commitments. Our GP practices and walk-in centres are open late and at weekends, so you can work whatever mix of hours and days that suit you.

We also understand that you’d rather be treating patients than shuffling paper, so we free you from much of the admin that you’ll find in a traditional GP practice. Plus, because our GPs don’t buy into our practices, you can say goodbye to the logistical worries that come with running a practice. All in all, you’re free to get on with doing what you trained for – treating patients.

What else do we offer?

  • If you join us as a salaried GP, we’ll pay your medical indemnity costs.
  • We’ll support you in your continuing professional development, so that you continue to meet your appraisal and revalidation requirements.
  • You’ll be joining a supportive team of quality health professionals, including expert medical leads who will provide ongoing one-to-one support and guidance.

At Practice Plus Group we’re constantly adapting our healthcare services and models to suit the way people live now. If you like the sound of joining an innovative, forward-thinking healthcare provider where your skills and experience will be valued and developed, apply for one of our roles today.
