Make a difference from day one!
Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. We deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic General Practitioner to join the Brixton team and be a part of a team who wants to make a difference. This is a part time post, to cover Mondays and Fridays (4 sessions per week). The practice times are 08:00-17:00. We appreciate flexibility, and therefore can accommodate sessional requests (ie: Monday 2 sessions / Fridays 2 sessions).
Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!
Your Day to Day:
As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities.
It doesn’t end there; you will have a chance to become actively involved in audit, teaching and training (management of substance misuse and/or blood borne viruses) as well as helping us to adapt the service to the ever-changing needs of the patients.
You would be part of team made up of GPs, Clinical Leads, Pharmacists, HCAs and Paramedics. Working alongside subcontracted Psychiatrists, CPNs and Psychosocial Workers, you will work flexibly assessing patients on the wing (if required) making professional autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems. You'll receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and make assessment of their health care needs and will develop a safe care plan with the patient for their presenting/existing health problem(s).
You'll provide appropriate ‘safety netting’ to allow for any deterioration or change in the patient’s condition, working closely with the site Lead GP. As part of this role, you'll have allocated study time to assist with and conduct clinical audits, attend occasional clinical governance meetings and have exposure to other clinical management areas such as medicines management, the investigation of incidents and complaints, and service development.
About You
We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. In order to set you up for success in your role, you'll have time to visit our 3 other sites within London, where you will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities. You'll also have the opportunity to work towards your RCGP level 2 and other qualifications should you wish.
MBChB or MBBS qualified, you’ll be registered with the GMC and on a PCT Medical Performers List. RCGP1 part 1 is desirable.
So what do we offer?
Excellent work/life balance and a supportive environment, as well as a competitive annual salary plus payment of MDU/MPS subscription and CPD days. Furthermore, should you wish there are plenty of opportunities for extra shifts and overtime. We also offer company benefits and schemes including company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, EAP, access to bank hours, cycle to work scheme, alongside free GP designated parking on site.
About Us
Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you are looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

Be the doctor you want to be at Practice Plus Group
Welcome to Practice Plus Group, the country’s largest independent provider of NHS services.
We deliver a wide range of quality, flexible services to millions of patients across the UK. But what do we give the doctors who work for us?
In a word, freedom.
Our primary care services range from GP services and walk-in centres to urgent care and SARCs, out of hours services and offender health.
That means, as a doctor joining our team, you have the freedom to choose where you work. Do you want to specialise in one area? Go for it. Would you prefer a portfolio career, developing your skills and experience in a selection of services? That’s also fine by us. Whichever option you choose, one thing’s for sure: because we serve a rich mix of patient populations you can expect a wealth of professional challenges that will really test – and develop – your skills.
What’s more, you’re free to choose the hours you want to work. So you can join us on a full time basis, or fit your role at Practice Plus Group around existing work or lifestyle commitments. Our GP practices and walk-in centres are open late and at weekends, so you can work whatever mix of hours and days that suit you.
We also understand that you’d rather be treating patients than shuffling paper, so we free you from much of the admin that you’ll find in a traditional GP practice. Plus, because our GPs don’t buy into our practices, you can say goodbye to the logistical worries that come with running a practice. All in all, you’re free to get on with doing what you trained for – treating patients.
What else do we offer?
- If you join us as a salaried GP, we’ll pay your medical indemnity costs.
- We’ll support you in your continuing professional development, so that you continue to meet your appraisal and revalidation requirements.
- You’ll be joining a supportive team of quality health professionals, including expert medical leads who will provide ongoing one-to-one support and guidance.
At Practice Plus Group we’re constantly adapting our healthcare services and models to suit the way people live now. If you like the sound of joining an innovative, forward-thinking healthcare provider where your skills and experience will be valued and developed, apply for one of our roles today.
