Job Details

Are you looking to work within a service that offers and promotes outstanding care to its patients?

If the answer is yes, then we are looking to recruit flexible, enthusiastic individuals to work in our prison healthcare service at HMP Long Lartin. Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. We deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic General Practitioner to join the team at HMP Long Lartin to cover 6 sessions over 3 days, details of which can be discussed at interview. We appreciate flexibility, and therefore can accommodate sessional requests.

HMP Long Lartin is a High Security Prison holding adult men. There is an 8 bed dedicated healthcare unit, including End of Life Facilities. Health in Justice deliver healthcare in a Prison setting comparable with a Community GP Practice. There are Primary care and Mental health nursing staff, Healthcare assistants, Recovery workers and Administrators all on site. Additionally other clinicians attend the Prison to deliver care such as the Dentist, Physio, Podiatrist, Optician, Psychologist, Psychiatrist.

What will you be doing?

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities.

It doesn’t end there; you will have a chance to become actively involved in audit, teaching and training (management of substance misuse and/or blood borne viruses) as well as helping us to adapt the service to the ever-changing needs of the patients.

You would be part of team made up of GPs, Clinical Leads, Pharmacists, HCAs and Paramedics. Working alongside subcontracted Psychiatrists, CPNs and Psychosocial Workers, you will work flexibly assessing patients on the wing (if required) making professional autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems. You'll receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and make assessment of their health care needs and will develop a safe care plan with the patient for their presenting/existing health problem(s).

You'll provide appropriate ‘safety netting’ to allow for any deterioration or change in the patient’s condition, working closely with the site Lead GP. As part of this role, you'll have allocated study time to assist with and conduct clinical audits, attend occasional clinical governance meetings and have exposure to other clinical management areas such as medicines management, the investigation of incidents and complaints, and service development.

What do our current GP's say?

‘As a full-time salaried GP and Clinical Lead, working for Practice Plus Group has provided me with stability, opportunity and resources to be able to do my job well. My work load is manageable and I am well supported by an excellent team who are keen and well-motivated. I am able to get involved in service development and commissioning as well as being supported with study leave for appraisal and professional development’. - GP at HMP Isle of Wight

About You

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal  to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. In order to set you up for success in your role, you'll have the opportunity to to visit our other sites within the West Midlands, where you will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities. You'll also have the opportunity to work towards your RCGP level 2 and other qualifications should you wish.

MBChB or MBBS qualified, you’ll be registered with the GMC and on a PCT Medical Performers List. RCGP1 part 1 is desirable.

Company

Be the doctor you want to be at Practice Plus Group

Welcome to Practice Plus Group, the country’s largest independent provider of NHS services.

We deliver a wide range of quality, flexible services to millions of patients across the UK. But what do we give the doctors who work for us?

In a word, freedom.

Our primary care services range from GP services and walk-in centres to urgent care and SARCs, out of hours services and offender health.

That means, as a doctor joining our team, you have the freedom to choose where you work. Do you want to specialise in one area? Go for it. Would you prefer a portfolio career, developing your skills and experience in a selection of services? That’s also fine by us. Whichever option you choose, one thing’s for sure: because we serve a rich mix of patient populations you can expect a wealth of professional challenges that will really test – and develop – your skills.

What’s more, you’re free to choose the hours you want to work. So you can join us on a full time basis, or fit your role at Practice Plus Group around existing work or lifestyle commitments. Our GP practices and walk-in centres are open late and at weekends, so you can work whatever mix of hours and days that suit you.

We also understand that you’d rather be treating patients than shuffling paper, so we free you from much of the admin that you’ll find in a traditional GP practice. Plus, because our GPs don’t buy into our practices, you can say goodbye to the logistical worries that come with running a practice. All in all, you’re free to get on with doing what you trained for – treating patients.

What else do we offer?

  • If you join us as a salaried GP, we’ll pay your medical indemnity costs.
  • We’ll support you in your continuing professional development, so that you continue to meet your appraisal and revalidation requirements.
  • You’ll be joining a supportive team of quality health professionals, including expert medical leads who will provide ongoing one-to-one support and guidance.

At Practice Plus Group we’re constantly adapting our healthcare services and models to suit the way people live now. If you like the sound of joining an innovative, forward-thinking healthcare provider where your skills and experience will be valued and developed, apply for one of our roles today.
