Make a difference from day one!

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. We deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and therefore as a General Practitioner at Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice, or even A&E environment.

We are looking for an experienced GP to join the talented healthcare team at HMP Bure to provide clinical oversight across a challenging, yet demanding patient group. This is an amazing opportunity to lead a truly integrated team who will deliver outstanding patient care. As the GP, you’ll support the Head of Healthcare in shaping the policies and strategies for developing and modernising clinical practice in order to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate healthcare services for our patients.

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it! HMP Bure's patient group consists of a larger proportion of prisoners with multiple long term conditions; a GP who has a preference for this type of medicine would thrive in this role.

What will you be doing?

The GP would be supported by a fantastic team of nurses, HCA’s and Nurse practitioners including the advantage of a Respiratory Nurse specialist; you can be sure that your career at HMP Bure will be a fulfilling one, working with such a vast team of multidisciplinary professionals. As part of this role, you will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities. You will be pivotal in engaging the clinical workforce to support the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, and will have the chance to further develop your clinical and medical skills.

About You

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we provide a training portal to facilitate your needs as well as have an in-depth induction for all staff whether you have experience of working in prisons or not. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, as well as access to a variety of training opportunities with the opportunity to work towards your RCGP level 2 and other qualifications should you wish.

We offer an annual salary of up to £110,000 pro rata as this role is working 4 sessions a week. We can be flexible in our approach to sessions but ideally the Friday sessions would be suitable. You'll also receive payment of MDU/MPS subscription and CPD days, so if you are someone that is looking to join an organisation that fosters your career development, you have come to the right place! If you are looking for portfolio work or cross site working, we can offer this on a temporary or permanent basis with the opportunities of extra shifts and overtime also.

We have a wide range of company benefits also, including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave rising to 28 days with service plus 8 public bank holidays (pro rata for part time applications), access to shopping discounts and the NHS blue light card, financial assistance when you need it, access to discounted memberships such as Costco and a cycle to work scheme.

Be the doctor you want to be at Practice Plus Group

Welcome to Practice Plus Group, the country’s largest independent provider of NHS services.

We deliver a wide range of quality, flexible services to millions of patients across the UK. But what do we give the doctors who work for us?

In a word, freedom.

Our primary care services range from GP services and walk-in centres to urgent care and SARCs, out of hours services and offender health.

That means, as a doctor joining our team, you have the freedom to choose where you work. Do you want to specialise in one area? Go for it. Would you prefer a portfolio career, developing your skills and experience in a selection of services? That’s also fine by us. Whichever option you choose, one thing’s for sure: because we serve a rich mix of patient populations you can expect a wealth of professional challenges that will really test – and develop – your skills.

What’s more, you’re free to choose the hours you want to work. So you can join us on a full time basis, or fit your role at Practice Plus Group around existing work or lifestyle commitments. Our GP practices and walk-in centres are open late and at weekends, so you can work whatever mix of hours and days that suit you.

We also understand that you’d rather be treating patients than shuffling paper, so we free you from much of the admin that you’ll find in a traditional GP practice. Plus, because our GPs don’t buy into our practices, you can say goodbye to the logistical worries that come with running a practice. All in all, you’re free to get on with doing what you trained for – treating patients.

What else do we offer?

  • If you join us as a salaried GP, we’ll pay your medical indemnity costs.
  • We’ll support you in your continuing professional development, so that you continue to meet your appraisal and revalidation requirements.
  • You’ll be joining a supportive team of quality health professionals, including expert medical leads who will provide ongoing one-to-one support and guidance.

At Practice Plus Group we’re constantly adapting our healthcare services and models to suit the way people live now. If you like the sound of joining an innovative, forward-thinking healthcare provider where your skills and experience will be valued and developed, apply for one of our roles today.
