It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

About HMP Dovegate…


HMP Dovegate is a Category B male resettlement prison in Staffordshire. It currently houses approximately 1150 prisoners both sentenced and remand. The prison also includes a separate 200-bed Therapeutic Community for repeat serious offenders. The unit, the only privately-run one in the UK and the only purpose-built therapeutic facility, offers its residents daily group therapy, which lasts between 18 months and 24 months. There is an 11 bed inpatient unit. The prison is privately operated by Serco.

At HMP Dovegate we offer training and development for all levels of the team, we could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health, , ILS/ALS (intermediate life support and advanced life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP 1 (substance misuse), SASH suicide and self-harm prevention and substance misuse, Health in Justice accredited course via Staffordshire university and long term condition courses.

In return for your hard work you will...


Receive an annual salary of;

• Registered Associate Nurse; Up to £25,000, depending on experience.
• Day Primary Care Nurse; Up to £33,600 (pro-rata for part-time), depending on experience.
• Night Primary Care Nurse; Up to £37,000 (pro-rata for part-time), depending on experience.
• Team Lead; Up to £39,700, depending on experience.

You'll also get a number of benefits including a company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave, increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus 8 public bank holidays and CPD and re-validation support.

What do we need from you so you can do the job?


You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult) with a valid NMC pin and evidence of continued professional development. You will have a real passion for developing your own clinical skills and those of your team. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourages new ideas, as well as the ability to work with service users and advocates to ensure involvement in services. You must have the ability to manage services in a rapidly changing environment.

Nursing in prison is never predictable. On any given day your role could vary from delivering advice in a long term conditions clinic to dealing with a medical emergency or supporting somebody who has deliberately self-harmed. The situation in prison can change at any minute. You need to able to think on your feet and make quick autonomous decisions in what can be a challenging environment.

Whereas, our Primary Care Team Leader role would provide you joint responsibility for the management and delivery of high quality responsive Primary Care Services throughout the prison that comply with all statutory instructions and delivered within the a framework of both clinical governance and good practice guidelines. Providing support in leadership and direction of the team to ensure high quality, effective services that are person centered, accessible and locally valued by the prisoners, the prison and Practice Plus Group.

We offer both full-time (37.5 hours per week) and part-time opportunities, inclusive of evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays. Shifts run weekdays 06:45 – 20:15, weekends (or Bank Holidays) 07:45 – 20:15 and nights 20:00 – 08:00 (7 days on 7 days off), all shifts run across a rolling rota
