Exciting new GP opportunity for newly-qualified/returning doctors

Enhanced Salaried GP role, working with Southwark GP Federation- Improving Health (IHL) and Concordia Health Limited

Are you a GP who has qualified in the last 2 years or have recently returned to General Practice?

We are looking at motivated and enthusiastic doctors who are keen to thrive in the challenges of inner city general practice.  Our new GP Academy is an innovative approach in making Southwark a satisfying, interesting, flexible and safe environment in which to work, with continued professional development opportunities.

Features include:

  • 5 appointments per hour rather than the standard 6 appointment structure
  • Protected administrative and learning time – at least 20% of the day
  • Reduced routine admin workflow, with a clear structured approach to non-clinical work
  • Weekly protected multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Educational and development meetings each month
  • Monthly Protected Learning Time half-day release (PLT)
  • Dedicated career progression pathway depending on interests (e.g. clinical specialism, GPwSI training, medical education, research/academia, leadership/mentoring)
  • Clinical debrief sessions with experienced clinical lead
  • Monitoring of stress levels, support for burn-out prevention, and regular reporting of GP satisfaction/learning to NHSE
  • Half-day release monthly to have educational focus/career development
  • Release to shadow/learn from our own community outpatients’ team (including consultant dermatologists, radiology, cardiology) – or with specialists within Southwark-federation/ CCG
  • Engaging with a new GP-group across the Southwark-locality, chaired by a senior GP, sharing learning/innovation/peer-support
  • Release to attend cluster/neighbourhood meetings, Council of Members, and other aspects of GP leadership – to engrain within the local Southwark health environment/help develop wider services, and learn about leadership
  • Reduction in Duty-Doctor working, e.g. starting with half-day only to gain experience/allow a decrease pressured environment, with Clinical Lead GP-support/review to increase this amount overtime in a structured approach

Clinical sessions will be shared between Melbourne Grove Medical Practice, and the Extended Primary Care Service (EPCS) with additional opportunities for working in local practices in the Federation Network.

We also offer mentoring and are committed to training and development with a view to becoming a local GP Lead, GP Trainer and/or GPSI status. Ongoing Study leave and training cost support is also available

Candidates must have:

  1. Current GMC registration
  2. Inclusion on the GP register
  3. Experience of working in a Primary Care environment
